For those who don’t know, this week is National Allotment Week; a time to dig with a little more passion, share our harvests with friends and families and celebrate this wonderful British pastime we dedicate so many of our weekends to!
It’s also a time to raise awareness about the value of growing your own; a time to share the importance of giving your families and the next generation a healthier future. Even if you’re on an allotment waiting list, there are community gardens to tend and you can always grow your own in pots on your window sill or balcony. There’s always space to grow something green.
With building developers greedily seizing our allotments, open spaces and greenbelts, it’s more important than ever to shout from the rafters why we need to maintain this way of life.
So to all you fellow gardeners out there, have a great week, share your produce, share your allotment photos, but most of all, keep the passion growing. We’re doing a good thing!
