No Rest for the Wicked

I once said to Soph, ‘this new life will give us more time to relax and unwind’. How wrong I was. We’ve never been so busy. Not that I’m complaining.

Whether it’s gardening for new clients, TV presenting, renovating the house or building the kitchen garden, life continues to thrill and surprise me.

I’m desperate to finish building the kitchen garden, as there’s so much I want to grow this season. It feels like I’ve been planning and building forever, so to actually sow seeds in the greenhouse this week, felt unbelievably good; I was beginning to worry I’d lost my green fingers!

I was also at QVC last week, guest presenting with Rob Smith on Michael Perry‘s Gardening World, and I had the opportunity to ask Rob about his kitchen garden. If you haven’t seen it, I urge you to take a look, it’s simply breathtaking. A year in the making, it’s finally coming into its own. He told me that you need two things when building your kitchen garden: aspirin and hot baths. How right he was. I’m currently digging out all the paths around my veg beds, and it is relentless, back-breaking work, but I’m determined to get it done.

But anyway, as another exciting week starts, here are a few special moments from the last month.

  1. I totally agree that it can be back breaking work, I could barely sit down for most of last week from over enthusiastic raised bed filling last weekend. I have limited myself to seed sowing and watering this weekend 🙂
