How To Build a Bird Box

The recent wintry weather may have turned our back gardens into pretty picture postcards, but spare a thought for the wildlife trying to survive at this time of year.

With my DIY tools still out after building last week’s log shed, this week, I set about building some bird boxes to dot around our garden.

In case you didn’t know, National Nest Box Week runs from the 14th – 21st February. It was established back in 1997, because of the lack of nesting holes in modern and renovated houses, and overly tidy woodland management policies. Since then, the annual campaign has gone from strength to strength with one simple message, ‘build or buy a nest box and give a bird a home’.

So with drill in one hand, and camera in the other, here’s a short video showing you how to build a simple bird box. If you stick to the end, then you’ll see something special.

Enjoy!

Where’s my Rent?

As our garden is a ‘flyby’ for a whole array of feathered wonders, I thought I’d share with you several snaps I took a few days ago of our new tenants.

I made the bird box from scratch and screwed it to the side of the garden shed.  And would you believe it, our newly detached one bedroom flat overlooking a filled water butt with open window and picturesque view of neighbour’s greenhouse, is now occupied.

Now.. Where’s my rent?
