How To Build a Bird Box
The recent wintry weather may have turned our back gardens into pretty picture postcards, but spare a thought for the wildlife trying to survive at this time of year.
With my DIY tools still out after building last week’s log shed, this week, I set about building some bird boxes to dot around our garden.
In case you didn’t know, National Nest Box Week runs from the 14th – 21st February. It was established back in 1997, because of the lack of nesting holes in modern and renovated houses, and overly tidy woodland management policies. Since then, the annual campaign has gone from strength to strength with one simple message, ‘build or buy a nest box and give a bird a home’.
So with drill in one hand, and camera in the other, here’s a short video showing you how to build a simple bird box. If you stick to the end, then you’ll see something special.

If ‘talking about the weather’ was an Olympic sport, us Brits would win gold every time. This week, whole TV schedules were given over to weather reporters, all intimidating us with updates on ‘Snowmeggedon’, while social media ran amok with snapshots of snow angels and clips of puppies diving into snowdrifts.
